Cruises 2008

Sailing to the Med

Cruising in the Galician rias. Beatiful landscape but the spring was colder than we had expected. Lisbon is an old beautiful city. Passing Cabo de Sao Vicente and the SW corner of Europe

Gibraltar

The apes were amusing. One jumped onto my shoulder. The stalagmites inside the cliff were fantastic. Gibraltar Straits with Africa in the background. Ship trafic was intense but well controlled.

Mediterranean

After arriving in the Med we sailed to the Baleares where we spent six weeks mainly on the west coast of Ibiza and Mallorca where we could get the best protection (and sleep) in the anchor bays. We also spent a month in Valencia who was very pleasant despite the size of the city.

Sailing in the Med is exactly as good as we had read about and hoped for. But the summer heat was almost unbearable despite good supplies of cold beer from our new fridge.

In the Baleares one stays at anchor. In June we could even find a bay of our own.

The dinghie is used for transporting supplies.

Bathing all day when the grandchildren are on visit.

History

3000 year old phoenician graves on Mallorca.

Alhambra is one of the best places we have been to.

Watch towers were built along the coast of the Baleares and the Spanish mainland.
